In the Garden

Fiction By Alecia // 4/3/2009

This is a tale, (or story, or whatever you prefer to call it) about me weeding my garden. Rather my mother's garden.
Weather: Very beautiful, despite it being extremely winding.
Garden size: Roughly 30x150, (It's very large)
We begin our story right after we have planted a rose, (not in the garden mind you) We start to put the water hose back when my mother says:
"We really need to clean up the garden"
The response from me and my sister,
"Why?"
"How long will it take?"
The last question was of course said because we don't have all day to this,(well let's just say that anyway).
"Should I turn on the water?" I ask hoping to get it done quickly.
"Yes I think that would be a lovely idea" my mother replies seeming happy. Yes happy. She is happy to be weeding the garden.
I go turn on the water, and bring the hose to my mother, who instructs me to put at the head of the garden,(thus making the water run downhill to the rest of the garden. Thus making it easier to pull weeds).
We begin to pull weeds, and discover that we have carrots growing. Very puny carrots because they are to close together.
My mother and I begin to pull weeds. My sister is excused to fold wash. When she is finished folding, she sits in a chair and reads while we work, pulling weeds, cutting hands, and getting very sore backs from bending over. We pull weed upon weed out, (our garden is very weedy. It hasn't been weeded in a long time. A word which here means "since last summer")
We are now muddy, and wet, (you must remember we are using water, because it would be much to difficult if we weren't) and the wind is now getting very strong, which doesn't help our being wet.
We strive our best to control the weeds, and prevent them from overtaking our beloved carrots, and lettuce. We are doing well when my mother informs me:
"I am going to make supper" (you must know it is only three o'clock in the afternoon) "because the meat has to marinate."
"What?!"
"Yes."
"What?!" This news is most disturbing. For who wants to pull weeds by themselves? I know my sister won't help me, so if my mother leaves I will be all alone!
"You are coming back........right?"
"Yeah. Whatever."
This does not sound very promising.
About 30 minutes later a man comes to fix our floor. My mother has still not come back, and I am begin to think she will not be coming at all. I weed about 20 more minutes, and then take a rest. I have been kneeling for about two and a half hours, and my feet and knees hurt. So I go to terrorize my sister, she is still sitting leisurly, reading, (she is reading sense and sensibility. Just in case you wanted to know)
"What?" She is not very welcoming. Why I haven't the slightest idea.
I do not go back to pulling weeds. The wind is now very, very strong, and I am wet, and cold. I am wearing shorts and a tank, because is was hot earlier.
We have weeded about a forth of the garden, and really, it looks quite good.
Soon after, I go inside. My mother never came out, and never had intentions of coming out, (kind of obvious though. She does that kind of stuff)
I am now very tired, and I curl up (which actually means sprawl out) on my bed, and watch a movie.

aw, man! That's rough. Our garden is about the same size & I have often ended weeding the whole thing by myself, also.

I have found no possible way of making weeding fun, interesting, or anything of the like. Nor have I met anyone who enjoys weeding.

Brit deary: Yes of course I have dear. No you have absolutely no defense whatsoever. You are just going to have to get over it.

You're hearing from me once more. Deal with it!

My sister likes to hover

My sister likes to hover over my shoulders and point out every little weed that's I've missed. Also, where there are weeds there are bugs. big ones. with fangs.

Every time I see the title

Every time I see the title for this thing, that one song starts going through my head. You know, the one "I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still onn the roses"...yeah, that. Anyway...just thought I'd throw that in there.

On sisters...Little sisters are little, but every body loves a good older sister. Right Leira?

Actually, I liked Amber and the other one whose (who's? I'm not sure how that works. Kind of like 'who' and 'whom') name escapes me. It was strange, but almost all of 'them' looked familiar. Anyway, all was well.
