Ironhooves son of Thunderhooves: Chapter 4: Trying to get a Herd.

Fiction by Bernadette | 6/2/2008

Ironhooves stood there and thought of all the herds he knew. He thought of the day he told Rocky that he would take Phillip’s herd. He was said to be the strongest stallion in the parts that Ironhooves was in. He was blue roan like his mares. He had a black face and black stockings and mane and tail. “I shall find him,” he said.
He passed through wide fields and tall mountains. The sun had risen fully when he saw in a valley a tight circle of blue roan mares. A blue roan stallion was prancing about. .”Phillip, ” said he, under his breath.
A bachelor herd was coming down to the valley with two other herds. Then Ironhooves rushed down, giving a cry of alarm. Phillip turned swiftly, and charged at Ironhooves. As they clashed, Ironhooves turned to Phillip’s side, pushing him down. Phillip wielded Ironhooves off. They reared and locked each other in their legs. Ironhooves was being pushed down, and scraped by the hooves of Phillip. Ironhooves reared, and crashed upon the ground as Phillip swerved away. Phillip plunged forward at Ironhooves. He leaped away. Then they both charged at each other, and it was a mess of legs, tails, and manes. Their neighs rose ands rose, and then died away.
The fight had lasted a long time, and Phillip had enough. He pushed Ironhooves to the ground. Digging into his shoulder, Ironhooves rose with all the strength he had left. He reared, and Phillip met him. Ironhooves cut a scar down Phillip’s forehead across the eye and to the muzzle. Then Phillip grew in rage and chased Ironhooves off. He dragged his wounded body up a mountain.
