Here's To Failures

A poem by Delaney | 10/12/2008
I wrote this a while ago. Yes, verse three is awkward, and I only put it there so I could have verse four, which I liked so much then and dislike now. ;)

We wave to one another
Before the walls are up.
You point and nod ecstatically
While I wish you, "good luck."

We know more than anyone
What will happen by and bye.
Indeed, we know when we begin,
Yet we smile every time.

Our work will fall - it always does;
This makes ninety eight.
You sigh and smile and shake your head,
While I laugh at my broken gate.

Here's to us, and future tries.
Here's to failure ninety-nine.
Though your roof decides to fall,
May you smile through it all.
