An Essay By Julie // 3/7/2017

LoriAnn invited me here back in 2009 after we 'met' on a fantasy website, and I was fairly active through 2011 or so, when my college classes started to take up more of my time.

I graduated college with a BA in writing and literature in December 2013 and promptly moved back home. I eventually found a job working for our local newspaper (circulation under 1,000); covering high school sports and local meetings means I'm working 2-3 evenings a week on average, sometimes more. Writing up sports and meetings leaves me with little inclination to write for fun.

I spend most of my online time these days on Tumblr as AslansCompass; I don't post often, but I reblog a lot of scifi/fantasy stuff. I can also be found at, but that page is mostly book reviews for free copies. When I do write, it's generally fanfiction at Archive of Our Own, also as AslansCompass.

I think I'll be coming back here once or twice a week, maybe making a few critique comments on short stories or essays. I may post personal thoughts on occasion, but probably not any fiction or poetry.

God uses the milestones as stepping stones to bring us closer to Him. We may not see it in the moment, but we can always look back and see the memorials of His love in the crumbles of our stumbling blocks.

Oh, it'll be nice to have you

Oh, it'll be nice to have you around again! I'm also pretty happy about getting free tutoring from a writing major/professional journalist. : )
