Welcome to a little piece of my life

A Poem By little woman // 3/24/2013

I: Embracing Me
This constant struggle to be
who
what
I think
they want to see.
Trying too hard
just want to fit in
tired of being on the outside
looking in;
I am sure
some of this is all in my head
but how much?
I want to be me
be wanted for me,
I want to be loved
for my quirks,
not despite them.
I wish being different was not such a sin
I'm sick of different
I just want to fit in;
or rather,
I wish everyone was like me
or else,
that being different didn't matter
and that I would stop judging people
for judging me.

II: Confusion
dropped in a world
so desperate for hope
shadowy guilt
masked with glitter
this world seems to be
falling apart
I don't want to like it
but I do
sometimes

I don't know what to think
I'm quite confused
I wish I knew what to do
or rather
I wish I had the courage to do it

III: Where My Loyalties Lie
I like you
to the point that
my heart leaps and falls
when you speak
move
look my way
but she liked you first
and we've been friends
and her friendship
means more to me
than liking you
this way
when I don't think you feel
the same

IV: Barriers
I knew
that I lost you
when you graduated
but I thought it was best
because not all barriers
can be overcome
I said goodbye
you seemed confused
I wanted to cry when you left
but one heart heals easier than two
so I was glad you didn't feel the same
until I saw you again
taken by surprise, suddenly shaken
later I heard
you might like me?
just a rumor
indefinite at best
but I melted inside
unsure of everything
then I remembered
our barriers
and grew strong again
'till I saw you last night
and now I feel
the familiar flustered ache

V: Often
my soul is often joyful
or calm at least
or rather, I am not always upset
heartbroken, torn, confused
but
that is often when I write
for I understand myself best
when paper goes to pen,
or pencil, as I have to erase,
and my thoughts pour out
more than I thought I had,
and the clouds turn to silver
and the mountain goes back to being a hill.
So you see, I write most often
when I am emotional
which is probably why I write poetry.

VI: Advice
you asked me my thoughts
one day out of the blue
you told me
dark family secrets
they didn't know you knew
you told me one of your own
I gave one of mine to you
and suddenly
our friendship is deeper
and I feel grateful
you came to me

Comments

That first one--I literally

That first one--I literally whispered ohmygosh out loud because there were so many amazing lines. I love what you do with poetry! It's absolutely incredible. And you get straight to the point, and everything is so relatable.

I am sure
some of this is all in my head

I can't tell you why, exactly, but that line was probably my favorite.

And this whole thing:

I want to be loved
for my quirks,
not despite them.
I wish being different was not such a sin
I'm sick of different
I just want to fit in;

Especially the rhyme at the end--it tied it in beautifully with the beginning.

And this....:

or rather,
I wish everyone was like me
or else,
that being different didn't matter
and that I would stop judging people
for judging me.

That end was perfect! :) Can't tell you how much I love it!

^ So basically I just copy>pasted your whole poem into a comment. :P Sorry. haha

In Where My Loyalties Lie, I loved this:

and her friendship
means more to me
than liking you
this way
when I don't think you feel
the same

I love how it's basically saying that 'you' like him, but she means more....especially since he doesn't like you like you like him. I feel like it's almost saying if he liked you the same you liked him...then it'd be different, and your loyalties might lie elsewhere. That's what I got from that stanza. :)

More copy>pasting:

and the mountain goes back to being a hill.

then I remembered
our barriers
and grew strong again
'till I saw you last night
and now I feel
the familiar flustered ache

I don't want to like it
but I do
sometimes

I wish I knew what to do
or rather
I wish I had the courage to do it

And I loved everything in advice, and I don't want to make this comment any longer than it already is, so I'll just leave it at that!

Great poetry. Thank you so much for sharing. :)

Haha, Homey pretty much sums up everything I liked about this poem too. So... I guess I can only say: "AWESOME JOB!", "KEEP WRITING!", and "Ditto to Homey" !!!! Very, very good!

Thank you both!

(I never quite know what to say back to compliments, but know that they make me quite happy. So excuse my lame-comment-responses :) )

LOL!

All you gotta say is:
"Yes, I know, I'm awesome, aren't I?"

Hahaha! Yes, that was me. If anyone ever sees several comments in a row in their inbox, it's probably me. Because I don't proofread my comments, and....yeah. I apologize! LOL!

I agree with Kass! Just say that from now on!
