Retribution Dogma

An essay by Sarah H | 11/2/2007

Retribution Dogma.
Why is it that most of us look at someone who is suffering, especially drunks, drug users, and homeless people and say, well they got what they deserved. I propose, perhaps, they were not so much "getting what they deserved," but just hapless victims of fate. My family is blessed with a wonderful ministry at our homeless shelter, and many of the men were once very successful businessmen. They in general, met some kind of problems, and lost everything, most of their wives left them when they crashed, taking the kids with them, and in despair, sank into alcohol, ect. Now, SOME of these men were bad boys, they drank, did drugs, were basically the reason the term Retribution Dogma was made. But still, why do we look at these rejects and say, like a self righteous priest, They got what they deserved. Why do not say of a grieving widow with small children, Retribution Dogma? What is it about our human nature that we pick on the lowest of lows, the rejects, and the people who have suffered unimaginably already? Why do we give these teetering souls an extra kick? Now I am in no way saying that no one deserves what they get, indeed, we have read in the Bible that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, In that wise, we all deserve a terrible, awful death. However, some things are beyond our control and even when we are saved, and walking in God’s will tragedies still happen. Next time, before you judge someone, think of this verse; Judge not, lest ye be judged, for with what measure ye judge, it she be measured unto you again.
Think on these things.
