I'm really fond of flowers

An essay by Tamerah | 5/18/2008

It’s amazing how easily the weather or time of year can effect my writing. For instance my last blog began talking about Spring and I believe it had something to do with a bush as well, which I suppose is sort of Spring like. However since then the weather has undergone a drastic change. It no longer feels at all like Spring but rather like Summer. I remember when I was little Summer was my favorite time of year, but it seems that’s no longer the case. In my opinion anything over seventy-five degrees is entirely too warm, and I’ve been finding myself dreaming of air conditioning with the recent ninety-five degree weather. I’m seriously considering getting a Summer house in Alaska when I’m older so I can dodge all the uncomfortable heat that Summer seems to posses everywhere else in the US. I’m beginning to find it hard to believe that only a month ago it was snowing. But even with the heat I managed to get outside yesterday (though wisely I waited till evening when it had cooled down considerably) and I took some pictures of the large patch of forget-me-nots I told you about in my last post, and some other flowers I thought were pretty. So I spent a good half hour taking pictures of flowers, getting my feet dirty (because who in their right mind wears shoes when it feels like Summer outside?), and watching the kids playing around and wishing I were little again so I could join them. And of course I showed off all the success I had in the picture taking department, though no one was really as enthusiastic about it as me, and my mom kept giving me weird looks when she saw me walking barefoot on the gravel which she seems to think aught to be rather uncomfortable. What she doesn’t know is that I mastered the skill of walking barefoot on gravel when I was a kid and it comes as second nature now, much like riding a bike (another thing I mastered as a kid, though it took more work and running into the garage door at least once and scraping me knees numerous times to get the hang of it). Okay, I’m starting to ramble, so I’ll just get to what I wanted to talk about in the first place. With the wonderful success of my photography I thought it would be cool to show everyone on here my pictures, since my whole family has seen it and I still feel the need to show them off.

So these are the forget-me-nots. You can’t really tell how immense the patch is from this picture, but it was the best one I took and I didn’t want to show you a less than great picture just so you could see how big the patch is. So you’ll just have to use your imagination the rest of the way.

My mom told me that these flowers are called Star of Bethlehem. They’re basically just one of the random flowers that grows in our yard. We don’t actually plant any of our flowers, they kind of just grow of their own accord.

And this is a purple lilac bush which most of you probably know. Rather pretty I think, not to mention they smell amazing.

Okay, I have no idea what these are, but they’re pretty as well. Funny story, I actually picked a few of these flowers about three days ago, and they are still sitting in a glass of water in my room, very much alive, while the rest that are outside are really sad and withered now owing to the heat.

Another lilac bush, though this one is a light purple-ish pink color. We actually have four lilac bushes in our yard. Two purple ones in the front, this one in the side yard, and a white one in the back, though I didn’t take any pictures of it since the flowers aren’t all blooming yet.

Dictionary definition: "Dandelion, a widely distributed weed of the daisy family". I’m not sure why dandelions get such a bad rap, I like them! I’m not sure what the flowers are in the back of this picture, some wild little things that were growing in the backyard.

Okay that’s the last one. I was thinking I should write something other than this which will be classified under essay, like my last post, but I’ve decided I really can’t be bothered to come up with anything else more interesting, I think I'm just too lazy. And since it is about time I posted something your stuck with this. Lucky you!

P.S. I hope you liked the pictures =D

Nice pics. Makes me want to come home to Oregon.

I noticed that some of them are a little blurry - one thing you can do is (assuming that you are using a digital) point the camera straight at the flower, push the shutter button halfway (this will auto focus the lens), and then move the camera to the angle you want and push the button the rest of the way. ;)

It's a name from some random alien movie I watched =]
I've had him for almost a year now, he's outlasted at least ten others.
