I wanted to write a lullaby that I will someday be able to sing to my someday kids... I wanted to emphasize the roles of men and women, and also incorporate some of the things my parents and grandparents used to say/sing to us (the last 2 verses, they aren't original as some of you may know...). I wrote music for it, you can find it here: http://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/9771c8ecb955951120ebf4dad6fec6c2a20001ae
I can't notate it perfectly: It's more free and gentle than the program makes it sound, and all of the chords are supposed to be gently rolled. I need to re-write the fourth stanza, it doesn't quite fit the music.
Hush-a-bye, o knight of mine,
Today you fought so fine –
Slaying monsters and dragons,
Rescuing your sisters in aprons
Sleep ye tight, fair princess dear,
You haven’t a thing to fear –
Mama’s watching over you,
And nightmares daddy will pursue.
My little man, you were up at dawn,
Guarding us while daddy’s gone.
Now rest your head, a job’s well done,
My brave and handsome son.
Mama’s helper today,
Working hard all the way,
Joyful servant of all,
Coming when we call.
Children of the King Above,
Turn your heart to Him with love,
Rest in Him, and gather strength,
Another day’s a-dawning waits.
Oh, I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living,
My baby you’ll be.
And I love you,
A bushel and a peck,
and a hug around the neck.
