3 Word Formulas

“I miss you”
The uninclined
Most important
3-word formula
Marches across
The bright screen
In a black place

“I love you”
A teardrop is
Inclined at
The overrated
Wrongly accused
Framed and punished
3-word sentence
That poisons
The English
Language with
Its well-meant
But hollow dance
Over the tongue

“I am sorry”
The equation
For liars and
The desperate
And the ones
With double-edged
Smiles: one that
Is sweet and the
Other to translate

Author's age when written

This is a poem I found while cleaning out my Google Drive. It wasn't finished and I was planning another verse or two it looked like, but I don't remember what I had in mind. So, I'll leave it up to you: write down a 3-word sentence and compose a verse about it! I'd love to see what you guys come up with!

Hi Madalyn! Well done; this was beautiful and thought-provoking. I especially loved the lines,

"3-word sentence
That poisons
The English
Language with
Its well-meant
But hollow dance
Over the tongue"

The idea of "I love you" often being a "hollow dance over the tongue" was beautiful and yet strangely haunting. It is so sad how beautiful the words "I love you" are, and how carelessly and quickly they are said with no foundation or truth.

You wrote very well; good job!

I took your challenge and wrote a couple verses about two 3-word sentences. I hope you enjoy!

“I forgive you”
The underrated
World changing
Wounds healed
Families repaired
Sinners welcomed
At the sound
Of these three words
Hard to say
Hard to accept
These three

"Here am I"
Words of surrender
Words of trust
Words of obedience
Placing an entire life
In God's hands
Surrendering all
To Him.
Delicate words,
Not to be spoken lightly.
Life-changing words
That are never a mistake.
Three simple words
That change a life's course
For the better

Hi, Grace! I'm so glad you enjoyed the verses! lol don't you just love finding old poetry?

WOW. I AM FLOORED. I loved both of your verses so much! I wouldn't have thought of Here Am I right away (I guess my phrasing wouldn't be as lovely and poetic as yours) but an amazing reminder! I find myself to be one of the people in this world that finds it so hard to say "here am I" all the time, so I'm so glad that this verse actually related so deeply to me right now. I'm trying harder every day to say "yes, here I am, I have no excuses" and your verse just reminded me to approach tomorrow with that same abandonment. Thank you for sharing!

I love this, Maddie! Well done.

“I am done”
Three words burn
Punctuating the darkness
Of a closed bedroom
Tears slip by
All seems lost and
Time is broken into ash
The fight is over, and
Fear has won

“I have hope”
The sun is breaking over
The horizon
God’s faithfulness rings true
These three words escape my tongue
And dry my tears
The battle is not over
Nor has darkness won
For hope shines forth
Even brighter than the sun
And this day, not over
No; it’s but just begun

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

"Might have been"
Saddest words of
Tongue or pen said
Someone with a better
Way with words than
Mine and I think
That he is right be
Cause I can't see
What can be worse
Than an opportunity
Wistful thinking and
Wistful smiles
And miles and miles
Of roads less traveled
That you decided against

I was gonna write more but had to go ;) I'll write a happy one soon!
Love Robert Frost <3 (I believe he was the guy who said 'of all the saddest words of tongue or pen the saddest are these, "it might have been"?')

Love these, love the poetry prompt, and love the conversation you started! These are really nice little verses. I'm too lazy at present to compose anything but other three word starters:

"It is written"
"I still do"
"In the beginning"
"It is finished"
"In the moment"
"Yes we can"
"He is risen"
"Here I stand"
"Follow your heart"

Your poems are like little poetic appetizers. :D (And that's a complement - in case it's not clear - lol!)

Thank you, Madalyn! I'm so glad you liked them! Yes, it is fun to find old poetry :) I also find it hard to say, "Here I am," but I want to be better at it. I want to live my life surrendered to God, and let him send me where he wants me.
Wow, Damaris, those were so beautiful; I loved them! I especially liked the second one. It was so beautiful, especially the last six lines.
Madalyn, that was really good, too! I wouldn't have thought about the words, "Might have been", but you're right; they hold such sadness and regret.

I'm always blown away by how proud you make me just being you and sharing that brilliant, thoughtful mind of yours! I love the term: double edged smiles...that was really beautiful and real to read. Well done, as usual! And how awesome that you started something like this! I loved reading everybody's responses and sharing their own beautiful verses! Here's mine!

“I am ready”
Three simple words
Too readily used
So quick to be said
Too often abused
Yet still they drip with
Of a future just a
Moment away
Infused with power and
Of better things
Of different things
Not to be wasted on

When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.

Love this! <3
Here's a little something that popped into my head:

“Oh my goodness!”
What on earth?
It don’t make sense
‘cause you ain’t good…
And hey—
what's the point of
talking to yourself
Like you’re some ‘god’ or ‘goddess’
where’d it even come from?
I don’t know—
don’t even care.
Know what? I bet
you don’t either!
