Brave Soldier Boy

Sun sets so low.
Fire lights the sky.
I asked you to come home.
I asked you not to die.

My brave soldier boy,
Fighting for so long.
My little soldier boy,
Please do come home.

When you cried your first
To when you hugged me last,
You’re gone forever and I thirst
So much for the blissful past.

My son, you promised me so firmly
When you were shipped away,
While, so tightly, you hugged me,
That on enemy soil you would not lay.

Two years past, now,
Since that fateful day
Your official told us how
And why, on our window, the golden star lays

My brave soldier boy,
Endless sleep calls you on,
My little soldier boy,
Keep marching Home.

Author's age when written

The story of a mother remembering her dead son. I was inspired to write watching the show Avatar: The Last Airbender, where an old man sings this beautiful song in memory of his son who died in service called Brave Soldier Boy. Each time I hear it I cry, and I decided to write one kind of like it.
