Delicately, heaven’s gems are glittering up high,
Aglow as flames, till one by one they sputter out and die.
With all their smiles, the dark as well hath come to melt away;
Now see this countenance of joy – the coming of the day!
Come, see the East, ’tis ever bright’ning
Over earth’s far distant edge;
Most like to fire, the sky is fright’ning,
Even now, its rays are spread
To greet the coming bright one’s light’ning,
Hov’ring just above its bed.
Here, the brilliant bead hath come! It kisseth earth and sky,
Establishing its time of rule, its full revealing nigh;
Round and golden, strong and warm, it seemeth now to say:
E’er see this countenance of joy – the coming of the day!
