To a Dog I Never Saw

Submitted by Libby on Fri, 12/22/2017 - 18:37

They saw a lost dog. We turned around to find it. We went back, and it was gone.

On our way home from the Christmas party, we were all feeling pretty good. There was a nice, warm contentedness about us. I was even singing in my Christmas carols in my head when we drove up the hill. Suddenly and unexpectedly, sighs of,

“Poor dog!” reached my ears.

I looked up.

“Where?” I asked; but we had already passed him. I was told that he was black and white, like an Australian Shepherd.

Girl of My Dreams

I once had a dream,
And in it was you—
Child of my heart,
Girl of my dreams.
Sweet little sister,
Bright as the dawn,
Right from the start
You’re real, it seems.

Brown hair, brown eyes,
A miniature me,
Is it really you—
Right out of my dream?
So quiet with others,
So open with me,
I really love you,
We make a good team.

Love and Lies and Oceans

I am a terrible person. If I said that out loud, I would be met with scores of replies from friends who think I am just having a bad day, or being just a little insecure. But I can trust you guys to take me at my word - I am a bad person. Not in an "everyone's a sinner" kind of way, but in a truly horrible "I hurt the people around me" kind of way. The part of me that still feels like I must always tell the truth shudders a little when truth or dare comes around, and I thank my lucky stars that everybody knows me as more of a "dare" kind of gal.

Veronica's Heart

The face of Love,

Sweat and dust

mixing with the blood,

that He is spilling

from His heart.

The heart of God.

Where is the glory?

Why tears?

Where is the gold crown?

Why is this fear?

Why do I see Him crashing down?

Where is the triumph?

Where is the throne?

Who can save Him?

Why is He alone?

My love isn't enough.

My heart is quaking.

Forget Me Not

Submitted by kit-kat on Tue, 03/01/2011 - 02:01

Forget me not, my friend.
Don't let me slip away
Though the time we shared was brief
As a winter day.

Please remember, my friend.
Won't you smile, even now,
As you remember all those nights
Before our final bow?

Miss me not, my friend,
Although I have missed you.
Just don't let me slip away
As the night stars do.

Don't tell me

Submitted by Bridget on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 05:44

Don't tell me I put up a good fight.
I lost.  Nothing will change that.
Don't tell me I did well.
I didn't.  I failed you, myself, and everyone else.
Don't tell me everything is okay.
Do you think I'm blind?  I know the world isn't perfect.
Don't tell me everything will be fine.
Not everyone gets a happy ending.
I don't want lies, even nice ones.
You can pretend everything is okay.  You can smile and sing and shut your eyes to everything.
It won't fix things.
You can believe in fairytales.

Wounding Whispers

Submitted by Hannah W. on Fri, 01/30/2009 - 18:13

I thought I had escaped
from chains of lies made by gossiping tongues
I was having fun, till I saw in your eye
what you were going to say later on about me
I swear it isn't true
but people hear what they want to
At least I won't be there
to be met with awkward stares
Where they once held open arms, will there be only polite hellos?
Or perhaps a wounding whisper, meant for me
slicing deep,
wounding whispers meant for me.
